A Loss for Words: Memory Entangled

A Sculptural Novel

What is true, what is forgotten? What is tangled, elusive, enveloped, lost, and remade? How do we make sense of our own disoriented memories? How does language both complement and interfere with the discovery of our own past? Felt connections and aberrations confuse and entice, yet words are often paralyzed. Experiencing a traumatic event often renders our memory veiled and inconclusive, our verbal language unable to grasp and transcribe the fragile truth, yet its ripples have wide ranging effects on our thoughts, bodies, and relationships. 

This memory-scape sculptural novel documents the imperfect process of unraveling traumatic memories through fragmented thoughts, dreams, and meditative landscapes. The sculptures encapsulate what is known or remembered and frame that as “enough”; enough to construct a current reality that both encompasses and accepts the omission of details, chronology, and often words.
